Preparing Tomorrow's Designers and Engineers Today
PTC is investing its legacy of innovation in a new generation of designers and engineers who will help its customers design the superior products of tomorrow.
The PTC® Partnership for Innovative Learning is dedicated to increasing the number of engineering graduates who can think creatively in three dimensions and express their ideas in Pro/ENGINEER® solutions. With this training, young engineers will be ready to work at customer companies because they are already skilled in using Pro/ENGINEER and Windchill® collaboration technologies.
PTC officially launched the worldwide program May 8, 2002, after conducting a successful pilot program that began in the United Kingdom (see sidebar) and expanded into the United States. The programs activities include:
- University Plus provides colleges and universities an unlimited number of Pro/ENGINEER seats for classroom and extracurricular club use for a modest $2,500 annual fee. Teacher training is free. Institutions worldwide, including the 15 top-ranked engineering programs in the US, are now using Pro/ENGINEER, Pro/MECHANICA® and other PTC solutions in their mechanical engineering courses with impressive results.
- The Corporate Donations Program allows PTC customers to sponsor a local college or university for membership by donating the annual fee on its behalf. Raytheon, Viking Range and U.S. Army Tacom are already sponsors for the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, Mississippi State University and Jacksonville State University, respectively.
- The Talent and Career Connection is an innovative website that the Partnership is creating to help PTC customers recruit qualified graduates for engineering jobs.
- The Flip for Design Competition, cosponsored by PTC and Motorola, has challenged college engineering students to design a futuristic new personal communication device. Winners will be announced in June.
In addition, PTC donates Pro/DESKTOP®its easy-to-learn, easy-to-use 3D design softwareto any middle or high school teacher who wants to provide training in design and technology. With this offer, PTC includes affordable teacher training, classroom materials, and other teaching resources.
Getting Your School or College Involved
The heroes of the PTC Partnership for Innovative Learning are the teachers and professors who are partners in developing an entirely new approach to instructing students how to think and create in 3D. PTC is working closely with these individuals to ensure that the new generation of engineers will be technologically literate and capable of expressing its product design ideas creatively.
You can get a teacher or professor at a school or college you care about involved in PTCs Partnership for Innovative Learning. To learn more, please visit www.ptc.com/go/pil or e-mail pil@ptc.com.
