Using a Family Table Instance to Create a Single Part Drawing in Pro/INTRALINK

This tip is to aid in duplicating a family table object into a single part while maintaining a relationship to the drawing. While this is a simple task when using a stand-alone Pro/ENGINEER, it becomes much more complicated in Pro/INTRALINK.

Here’s the list of Workspace (WS) objects that will be used for duplication into a single part object and drawing.

1. Highlight all objects in the Workspace and then select Object, Duplicate from the main menu. The Duplicate Objects window will appear.

All objects are highlighted by default. Do not modify the current selection of objects before continuing to the next step.

2. Click the Apply button to create a new name for each object. The new name will be the original name followed by an underscore.

3. The instance002.prt and tabulated_draw.drw will be the base part and drawing objects. Modify the New Name column entry to the desired name for each object. In this example, part.prt is the new name for the final part and drawing.drw for the drawing object.

4. Click the OK button to perform object duplication. Objects that do not have entries in the New Name column will not be duplicated to a new object.

The following steps are performed in Pro/ENGINEER windows.

1. Open the (new) drawing part_draw.drw in Pro/ENGINEER. Since instance002.prt is used to duplicate to a single part object, it is also used to generate the drawing views.

2. Replace the current model and views with the duplicate single part object part.prt by selecting Drawing, Views, Dwg Models, Replace.

3. Select the part.prt object from the open dialog box. The drawing views are now based on this object. The current model name is listed in the bottom of the drawing window.

4. Open the generic model containing the single object generic_model_.prt.

5. To make all open objects related to the family table independent, select Family Table, Edit, Delete entire table. Click YES to confirm deletion of table.

The command line will confirm that the family table objects are no longer related to the table.

Note:  Information window may appear indicating storage conflicts. Acknowledge and click OK.

6. Close the current window (do not erase) and return to the drawing window.

7. Open the Workspace browser, select and delete all objects by choosing Edit, Delete.

8. Return to the drawing in Pro/ENGINEER and Save.

9. Open the WS browser and click Refresh. Confirm that the single part object and related drawing are the only objects in the WS.
